The origins of this celebration 

The name Halloween comes from the combination of the expression ‘All Hallows Eve’. A holiday that origined in Ireland, more than 3,000 years ago. When the autumn solstice arrived, the peasants believed that on the night of October 31st, spirits could cross the line that separated the world of the living from the world of the dead, so many people decided to wear masks and costumes to ward off evil spirits. 

The best novelties 

As we have already mentioned, PortAventura World is coming on strong, with great new features, such as the new open-air terror passage La Leyenda del Rey Caníbal, located in the Angkor attraction. Those brave enough to enter will be taken to the temple by the clandestine travel agency Oriental Adventure Expeditions. One of their tour guides will accompany you to the cursed temple, where you will have to find your way out of the Angkor Kingdom and overcome the occasional terrifying obstacle.  

Another recent innovation is the first immersive Mixed Reality experience. The new attraction Hysteria in Boothill allows us to enter the abandoned house of the McGregor family, near the Boothill cemetery in Penitence, inside which a séance will be conducted by Medium Bladsky who will help us to find out what is happening in this paranormal place. A tour that fuses real and virtual elements at the same time. 

As the latest novelty in themed rides, there’s Truco o trato, the first children's Halloween passage that you will find from Polynesia to the Magic Temple. This is an experience that aims to ensure that the youngest members of the family can also enjoy a horror-themed passage adapted for them. 

Incredible shows    

If you want an even more complete experience during your visit to the park, you can also enjoy one of the many shows offered by PortAventura World. Like Halloween Factory, in the Gran Teatro Imperial of China, a performance full of incredible choreography, ghosts and the living dead that will leave you astonished. West Blood Frenzy, a fun show set in the Far West, with lots of action, acrobatics and humour. Also, Vampires, a performance full of vampires, terror, humour, music and amazing choreography. El Día de los Muertos, at La Cantina, with its show full of music and rhythm of the traditional Mexican holiday. And finally, Horror en el Lago, an incredible show that takes place on the Mediterranean lake at nightfall. Creepy skeletons and other terrifying creatures will cross the waters to begin a show full of music, fire and pyrotechnics to end the day. 

The most intense rides 

If you are looking for an adrenaline rush on roller coasters or free-fall rides, here is a list of all the rides you can find in this theme park. One of the most powerful rides at PortAventura is the Shambhala roller coaster, which holds three records for the highest, fastest and longest roller coaster in Europe. The main charm of this attraction is that it gives a zero gravity feeling.  

Next up is Dragon Khan, one of the park's star rides. This roller coaster has also won several world records, having the highest loop in the world. Another ride that is among the park's strongest is Furius Baco, capable of accelerating from 0 to 135 kilometres per hour in just three seconds.  

If you decide to spend a day at PortAventura, you can’t miss one of the world's largest free falls, Hurakan Condor, which has a drop of 100 metres high and reaches 115 kilometres per hour. 

Where to eat in the park 

This theme park offers a very varied gastronomic range, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your needs. There are three types of establishments: on the one hand, fast food restaurants, including Café Saula, in Mediterrània; Sweet House, in Far West; Taquería la Catrina, in Mexico; and Cactus Express, also in Mexico.  

Other options include self-service, such as La Cantina in Mexico; Canton - Wok Noodles in China; The Old Steak House in Far West; and Bora-Bora in Polynesia. Finally, there are a la carte and buffet restaurants, such as Racó de Mar in Mediterrània; The Iron Horse in Far West; La Hacienda in the Mexico area; and Buffet Marco Polo in China.

PortAventura World also has 6 themed hotels near the park. The Colorado Creek Hotel, one of the newest, set in the American West; the El Paso Hotel, with a Mexican theme; the Caribe Hotel, set in a tropical oasis; the PortAventura Hotel with a Mediterranean aesthetic; the Gold River Hotel, with a Far West theme; and Mansión de Lucy, which will take you back to the Victorian era.
