BusPlana integrates urban transport into its services in Vilanova i la Geltrú
  • From Monday, 9 buses per day from the company and its line L68 will also offer the urban transport service previously provided by L1 and L2
  • Line L68 will serve a total of 89 stops within Vilanova i la Geltrú, with buses running every 15-20 minutes during peak times from Monday to Friday and every 30 minutes at other times
  • The service in this urban area will be renamed L68, although the names L1 and L2 will be maintained for a while

As of Monday 3 February, BusPlana will integrate into its L-68 service all the Vilanova i la Geltrú urban transport services of the former L1 and L2. In total, 9 buses a day will make a total of 89 bus stops throughout the city, from 4:50 am to 11:20 pm.

As a novelty, the service of this urban line will be renamed L68, as it is integrated into the Vilanova i la Geltrú-Vilafranca del Penedès line. However, the current names L1 and L2 will be maintained for a while to make it easier for passengers to adapt.

This morning, at the presentation of the service, the mayor of Vilanova, Juan Luis Ruiz, stressed that ‘today is a very important day for the city. One of the goals we set as a municipal government, which is also included in our municipal action plan, is to work towards much more sustainable mobility. This also meant having quality and sustainable urban transport’. Ruiz thanked BusPlana for their willingness ‘to make this new service possible, which will mean a major improvement for users, with more efficient, adapted and quality buses’.

For his part, the president of Grupo Plana, Josep Albert Vallcorba, remarked that ‘these buses not only improve the urban service, but also facilitate the intercity connection with Vilafranca, eliminating unnecessary transfers, and will allow users of the Vilafranca line easier access to the entire population of Vilanova, and the inhabitants of Vilanova easier access to go to Vilafranca. In addition, they are environmentally friendly vehicles, with ECO label and EURO 6 certification, which guarantees a lower environmental impact. They are also adapted for people with limited mobility, with access ramps and state-of-the-art safety systems. We believe that this improvement will be noticeable from day one and that users will enjoy a more efficient and comfortable service’.

Frequency and coverage

The service will guarantee a frequency of 15-20 minutes at peak times and 30 minutes at other times, improving connectivity and reducing waiting times.

Commitment to sustainability

The vehicles that will operate these routes in Vilanova i la Geltrú have the ECO environmental label, a distinction awarded by the DGT to identify vehicles with much lower environmental emissions. In addition, they also have the high environmental certification EURO 6C, which includes advanced technology to minimise the ecological footprint through particle filters, gas treatment systems and optimised consumption.

The coaches have a capacity of 74 passengers; 33 seated and 41 standing. All vehicles are adapted for people with reduced mobility and are equipped with certified wheelchair spaces. These vehicles have state-of-the-art active and passive safety systems, advanced electronic braking systems and speed limiters, among other features.

Improvements in customer service

In order to offer a better service to users and to resolve any queries citizens may have, starting next Monday BusPlana will extend its costumes service hours, which will now be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays (93 893 70 60 60).
